This camera was designed by Fairchild Aircraft and several, including this one, was built under license by Keystone Manufacturing Company in Boston, Mass. The F-8 was mostly likely used for aerial view reconnaissance by the US Navy or Army Air Corps, used in both reconnaissance and bomber aircraft, operated handheld out of the window hatch.
During WWII, it became the premier camera in its class, and an iconic piece of equipment. The camera is in very good condition, with focal length - 10 and aperture ranging from f/4.5 to 32. The Keystone is fitted with a Wollensak 15 inch f/5.6 telephoto lens (SN 424612).
The aperture dial, film advance lever and shutter release button works. The Keystone F-8 uses 5 x 7 roll film (7 wide and 25 feet long) and the camera includes the 2 original film spools. The camera weights approximately 16 lbs. And measures 13.5 x 14 x 13.5. Please see images for condition and additional detail. The rare drive motor was manufactured by Fairchild Aircraft. Details: Model D121-AN1-2, 1420 RPM, 27.5 volts, weight 4.6 lbs, output watts 60. The effectiveness of the F-8 ultimately led to civilians shooting with it also, most famously by photographer Margaret Bourke-White who made photographs for US commercial airlines with it. This camera package was slotted to a museum (National Air and Space Museum in Washington) as part of an interactive WWII exhibit but the museum ended up using some of its in-stock inventory. This vintage WWII aerial camera is certainly a wonderful addition to the serious analog film collector either to put back into use or just place on display.
