Here is a great ultra large format Scovill & Adams studio camera perfect for someone who wants to get into wet plate photography using the original photographic. Equipment photographers used 130 years ago. The camera itself is the 11x14 size version and it comes with many original accessories.
I will list what it comes. With and then the particulars on the items.
With the camera it comes with its original 11x14 ground glass back. It's Scovill & Adams 11x14 plate holder w/ tambour. It's original 8x10 sliding back with swing out ground glass. Its original Scovill & Adams 8x10 plate holder w/ tambour slide cover. That works great with the camera but is included more for display as I'm sure one would want to use their own portrait lenses. Okay, now to the details on all the.
The camera is in great shape and has not been abused over the years. The rear standard does have an old metal corner reinforcement. Tilts on the rear standard work fine.
The bellows move fine and have not hardened. They do have some corner light leaks typical with a camera of this age but can easily be repaired as the bellows are quite large with easy access.
Fine shape showing normal wear for a camera 130 years old. The camera is quite sturdy. Both the 11x14 and 8x10 backs are perfect for using glass for wet plate. You can place the item you want to use, and tighten the brackets on it and the tambour slide system leaves room to work with as the wet plates can.
Whats nice about the large holders is they are adaptable to many formats and ways of taking pictures. Both the holders are original Scovill &. Adams and the bracket adjusters open and close fine. On the 8x10 holder the tambour back slides very easily and can be done with one hand. Holder the tambour back is harder to open and close as it has warped somewhat.
Some work should probably be done to make it move easier when it is in use. The 8x10 sliding back adtachment works fine and slides if one desires.
On the camera back its main opening is 14 x 14 inches and it has a removable 10x12 inch. The camera is quite large and weighs 40 pounds by itself. 32 inches long, 18 inches wide and 24 inches high. Says Long Distance Stereopticon Kleine Optical Co. The lens is a petzval and was originally a projector lens.
I checked out the image on the ground glass and it gave a really nice image that appeared to cover the whole ground glass. I checked it with a head portrait.
Camera with alot more style before the box like Century studio cameras came out. You won't find many 11x14 cameras of this age anymore that are still in fine useable.
