This is for the BLACK version of the Minolta SRT-101. This has been an enjoyable Minolta Camera. I love the SRT series and have owned several. They're workhorses and built like a tank. This one is no different. Despite being over 50 years old, this camera and lens have been fantastic to work with. The 1.7 aperture helps when working in low light settings and gives great subject separation.
I wish I had an exciting back story for this camera, but it is similar to the others I've owned. I picked it up used, fell in love with shooting it until life got in the way and it started looking sad on my shelf. But not before going to take a roll of film and produce consistent great photos. This nice camera functions as it should - and it is a great camera for beginners who are wanting experience with manual focus and manual controls, as well as great for Pros who know their way around a camera. But it is not perfect.
Self timer works well, shutter, film release, rewind knob, ASA knob, etc all work as intended. The camera body itself has seen its share of action. There is a corner that is dented in, and the camera body has heavy brassing, especially on the bottom plate. It gives great character to the camera and shows that it is a tried-and-true workhorse.
Focus is smooth and offers just enough resistance to help with focusing, but it is not stiff. As you can see in the photos, it is in great shape, with the aperture being clicky and solid. Lens condition reflects its age. No large scratches or issues, but it is not "Mint" - but that's what I loved about it. It has its flaws which give it character. If you've ever shot on vintage glass, you'll understand exactly what I mean.
