Offered is a very nice vintage Arriflex 35IIC (aka 2C) 35mm motion picture camera, a workhorse of feature film production in the first half of the twentieth century. All of the classic cameras of the period showed up on my shoots: the Mitchell BNCR, Panavision Silent Reflex and various Panaflex models. But every time MOS shooting was called for an Arri 2C was the camera of choice. In fact, an Arri 2C was the camera used to shoot my very first commercial, in 1974.
So I always lusted for one of these great cameras and when I had the opportunity in retirement to get a camera as a keepsake I bought this one from an equally retired cameraman I'd worked with many times. It has been on a table next to my desk for a few years now, just as you see it in the pictures. We are downsizing hereabouts and it's time to let go of this beauty.
Cosmetically the condition is remarkable - normal paint scratches, etc but it has clearly been babied by its previous owner. I know it still operates because I recently borrowed a battery and ran it briefly. I didn't push it, because I'm sure it should be cleaned, lubed and checked out by an expert, but it did run smoothly, and just as noisily as I remembered.
The only thing I'm uncertain about is the lens. It is perfect mechanically - the focus and aperture rings operate smoothly and the lens looks clear. The front element looks great but there is a cloudy patch on the rear element which looks to me like a disturbance in the coating.
