Cast from an aluminum alloy and covered with leather, the Mercury was not only unlike anything Universal had offered before, it was actually a revolutionary achievement. Important features worth noting include the unique rotary shutter (responsible for the circular protrusion on top of the camera), capable of extremely accurate speeds up to 1/1000th of a second. Additionally, the Mercury was the first camera to have internal flash synchronization triggered by direct contact with the foot of the flash unit, known today as the hot shoe. This camera is in decent shape and is working - not bad for an 84 year old camera. The shutter works and seems accurate to my eyes.
The 35mm Tricor f/3.5 lens is pretty clear - no scratches, fog or fungus - it does have a few specks of dust. Focusing is smooth and the aperture moves nicely. The covering is new espresso brown goatskin leather - soft but durable.
This is a nice camera that you can shoot with and have as a display piece. Includes field case & instruction booklet. Look closely at the pictures as this is the actual camera that's for sale.
